Cozaar is a medication classified as an angiotensin II receptor antagonist or blocker. It counteracts the effects of angiotensin, helping to facilitate smooth arterial blood flow. This mechanism contributes to lowering high blood pressure, making it a common prescription for hypertension. Additionally, it is utilized for various other cardiovascular conditions.

Angiotensin II receptor drugs work against the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system. They block the action of the angiotensin hormone and are beneficial for numerous cardiovascular issues such as hypertension, stroke, myocardial infarction, and angina pectoris.

Cozaar is prescribed for managing hypertension and also helps reduce the risk of stroke in patients with high blood pressure. It is indicated for those with left ventricular hypertrophy and can help prevent the progression of nephropathy in type 2 diabetes mellitus patients who have or had hypertension.

As an angiotensin receptor antagonist, Cozaar promotes smooth arterial blood flow. Once ingested, it is converted into its active form in the liver. It attaches to the angiotensin receptor, leading to effects such as vasodilation, reduced workload on the heart, enhanced survival rates, prevention of heart attacks, decreased hospitalization, and alleviation of symptoms.

You should avoid taking Cozaar if you: are allergic to it, have low blood pressure, suffer from kidney disease, have liver issues, have rheumatoid arthritis, are on other antihypertensive medications, are using diuretics, taking potassium or potassium-containing substitutes, have any other heart conditions, are pregnant or planning to become pregnant, or are breastfeeding.

Always adhere to the dosage prescribed by your doctor. It is crucial to take Cozaar at the same time daily. The initial recommended dose ranges from 25 mg to 50 mg and may be adjusted up to 100 mg based on the patient's condition. Dose adjustments are typically made over time according to the patient's response. Always follow your doctor's instructions regarding Cozaar.

Swallow the entire tablet with a full glass of water, and do not crush or chew it. Cozaar can be taken once daily, either before or after meals. Taking the medication at the same time every day leads to better results and helps you remember when to take it.
